Remote underwater vehicles and their cousins, autonomous underwater vehicles, are maturing and being used for a wider variety of oceanic tasks. They can work deeper and across larger expanses than before. Surface-going drones complement their work, sailing autonomously from waypoint to waypoint and through hurricane-force wind and waves.
