Infographic: Floating Solar Systems Ride the Waves

While wind power is the fastest growing segment in the U.S. energy mix, solar systems also are seeing steady growth. In 2020, solar accounted for 43 percent of new electric-generating capacity in the U.S. and is expected to boast 324 GW of capacity over the next 10 years, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association. Most of that development is land-based, but floating solar arrays are beginning to develop. Fitch Solutions projects that 10 GW of new floating solar capacity will be deployed by 2025. So far, most projects are installed in reservoirs and still water but new technology is pushing floating arrays into choppier water and the oceans.
